I just downloaded tools-windows-9.6.1.exe.tar via link you provided from absolutely independent network, to absolutely different PC (Windows 7 SP1), that never was connected to my laptop (Windows 8.1 RTM) in the past. It's only my assumption, but anyway, it will be great to check why I get different SHA-256, from one, which was published in. I assume, that the tools' distributive has been updated, but wasn't, thus when VMware Player tries to verify tools distributive, we get fail. It looks like very strange and now I even begin to think, that the root of the issue, probably, is in un-updated checksum. I also checked this file with SHA256 Checksum Utility, but the same result received.ДЄs you can see it's not the same SHA-256 hash, as you provided above.
